PHP 7 release soon (What happened to 6)?

Announcing the release of PHP 7 by the end of this year. I find it intriguing that in my career to this point, I have yet to see or hear of anyone running version 6. Most current production environments that I have seen are running 5.4 or 5.5 – many conservative (or lazy) folks are still running 5.3.

Anywho… I thought the bit about the new “spaceship” operator <=> sounds interesting (if not extremely useful)… but I REALLY like that they are finally going to have type hinting on function return types, and also scalar types (like int) for type hinting on function arguments. I always thought it was a bit silly that you can only type hint object types or arrays on arguments up until this change.
